It wasn't until this month that I finally had the chance to sit down by a window with a cup of hot coco in my hand and reflect on my adventures this year in cake topper making.
Looking back, 2010 was a good year, if not a bit of a roller coaster ride for me at times. For those of you who check my website every now and then probably noticed that I haven't updated anything new since my "It's wedding season!" post about six months ago. At the time, I really thought the wedding season would last only about three months. Ha, turns out it was more like six months and I was so overbooked that I had to play catch up with my production schedule the entire time.
I have to admit that it was awesome having a fully booked schedule for six months straight and feeling that my services were wanted. But it was also incredibly stressful when I realized that there were only so many cake toppers I could push out each month and that my ambitious production schedule was kicking my butt.
Now, to make sure I put what I learned this year to good use and have a less chaotic wedding season next year, I am looking to make a few changes for the the workshop. Here are a couple ideas that I am hoping to brainstorm over the holiday and implement by 2011:
1. Adding a Booking Calendar: One that will allow my customers to see my availability easily before placing a deposit/order as well as preventing me from taking more orders than I am capable of.
2. Price adjustment: It became quite obvious to me halfway though the year that I haven't been charging as much as I should for some of my cake toppers. Now that I have a year's worth of numbers recorded, I am hoping to do some serious accounting before the end of the year and figure out the fair price for me to charge next year.
3. Revising Early Bird Discount: It was apparent that my Early Bird Discount worked well this year in helping me fill up my schedule and l intend to keep it going for next year as well, but based on how quickly the schedule filled up, the amount of time in advance for the order to get the discount may have to increase.
So these are the major changes! Have a wonderful holiday and hopefully you will all hear from me again sometime soon and not six months later. :)
